About Tony Cohen

Born in Amsterdam Tony Cohen is an autodidact, gifted with a lot of creativity and natural talent for fashion and design. He discovered his interest for fashion by regularly visiting his grandmother who sold vintage designers clothing at the market. Some of this vintage pieces are still in his archive. In his teens he was an early adopter of the first Japanese designers like Kenzo & Yamamoto entering Europe and Versace from Italy.

Coming from a family in fashion [his father represented several fashion houses] Tony took a detour to come to his destination. In his early 20s Tony became a professional baseball player. Shortly after, turning to the inevitable path of becoming a fashion designer.

After this career switch Tony started designing. His first professional designing experience took place in Italy, where he worked on and off for 8 years. Tony started with garment dyed pieces, that reminded him of the eighties, when this was popular among admired designers, such as Katherine Hamnet and Jimmy Taverniti.

In 2005, Tony Cohen & his business partner established TONYCOHEN. Together they managed to make the luxury couture line TONYCOHEN into an international success. To cover the market better, they also launched the commercial design line called 2LOVETONYCOHEN in 2010.

Years of dedication has also landed international recognition from the luxury fashion industry in the form of an invitation to show during the prestigious New York Fashion week. Tony Cohen has been the first and only independent Dutch designer who got invited to show in the tents of Bryant Park, New York. In 2010 he already did his 5th New York Fashion Week runway show.

In 2010 the couture line was renamed ‘Atelier TonyCohen’ and the commercial design line ‘TONCOHEN’. The '2LOVETONYCOHEN' line got repositioned to a more commercial, attractively priced line made with the same appreciation for fine craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Over the years, TONYCOHEN managed to rise from a small scale organization to an international player within the fashion industry. The 3 lines are sold in more then 250 luxury department stores and boutiques worldwide, like: Barneys/ LA, Neiman Marcus/ New York, Henri Bendel/ USA, Bloomingdales/New York, Harvey Nichols/Dubai/Hong Kong, Aïshti Lebanon/ Dubai/ Bahrain, Theresa/Munich, Gente/Rome, Intermix/New York, Al Ostoura/Kuwait, Belinda/Australia and many stores and boutiques across Europe and not to forget his own TONYCOHEN flagship stores in the prestigious PC Hooftstraat and the Huidenstraat, one of the 9 streets on the canals.
